Who We Are

As a family of six community-based colleges across East Kent, our mission is to play a leading role for East Kent in developing the economic and social prosperity of the communities we serve. Our vision at EKC Group is for ambitions in life and work to be achieved through outstanding education and skills. This vision clearly articulates where we want to see EKC Group in the future, highlighting our commitment to changing peoples lives through the power of education. We are relentless in our drive to deliver an inspirational education experience for young people and adults across our family of six Colleges and three Business Units. At the heart of everything we do is community, which is critical for us as one of the largest employers in East Kent. EKC Group has announced plans to become “the greener place to learn and work” and will seek to achieve carbon net zero across our organisation by 2040. In line with this drive to deliver an organisation that places sustainability at its heart, the Group has published its own Sustainability Strategy which sets out a clear roadmap to achieving its ambitious targets on the pathway to becoming a 'Net Zero Carbon' organisation - you can download your copy here; https://www.ekcgroup.ac.uk/sites/default/files/Sustainability%20Strategy%202021_0.pdf

Achieving Net Zero 2040 & Committing to Sustainability...

As part of our ongoing understanding and commitment to the UN's Sustainable Development goals, EKC Group has set a target to become a carbon net zero organisation by 2040. This is 10 years ahead of the national target. Of particular importance and relevance to our organisation are UN SDG goals No.4 Access to Quality Education, No. 5 Gender Equality, No.9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (see our programme below), No. 10 Reduced Inequalities, No.12 Responsible Consumption and Production No.13 Addressing Climate Action & No. 15 Life on Land. You can find out more about the individual UN Sustainable Development Goals here; https://sdgs.un.org/goals. Becoming a truly sustainable organisation is wide ranging, and also focuses on initiatives which minimise our impact on the environment around us and promotes and protects our natural resources such as plants, trees and wildlife. Our stakeholders including Students, Parents, Staff and Govenors alike as well as the wider local Community, Businesses and Supply Chain Partners all have an important role to play here in helping make our College Group 'future-fit' for the next generation.

Decarbonising Kent - Green Manufacturing & Engineering Programme for Businesses

As the world looks to its future following COP26, and sustainability becoming ever more important for both individuals and businesses to fight off the effects of climate change, EKC Group want to help engineering and technology businesses as they strive to become more environmentally friendly. Following a successful bid into the Government’s trailblazing Skills Development Fund (SDF) scheme, EKC Group is delivering a project which will help the engineering and manufacturing industries decarbonise the sector, and drive greater sustainability throughout it. Through the project our Group will develop and nurture links into local industry, driving decarbonisation through the promotion of better ways of working, whilst ensuring that as a training provider we’re delivering the skills which business needs to make sure it operates in a sustainable manner fit for the future. We’re offering access to leading figures in the effort of decarbonising engineering, CPD opportunities and the opportunity for your business to access our Green Engineering Centres at our Ashford and Canterbury Colleges. Businesses will also get the opportunity to access KPS consultants to develop a readiness assessment plan. This will form the bedrock for businesses decarbonisation action plans, giving access to tools and information that will empower employers to develop a robust decarbonisation strategy for their business. Working with sustainable manufacturing consultancy HSSMI, we will be holding a series of virtual workshops over the coming months which focus on best practice in decarbonising and future-proofing businesses of all sizes.
